Dinosaurs and breathing

Apparently dinosaurs may have owed their enormous size to the development of their lungs. Scientists believe that they may have had similar lungs to birds which have nine extra air sacs. These, along with their unique parabronchi extra fine tubes, provided a much greater surface area for oxygen absorption giving 80 per cent more efficiency. And as their lungs produced more oxygen than their body required, so they grew to their giant size. So there's a useless piece of information.

However what is useful, is if we can remember the importance of our own breathing, particularly in times of stress. It seems daft to have to remember to breathe. After all breathing is a vital life function and is controlled for us by our respiratory centre in the brain which monitors levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, lactic acid etc. Our problem is that we often 'hold' our breath by habit and particularly in times of stress, just when we need the oxygen to think clearly! We don't need the extra air sacs of the dinosaurs, but we do need to use what we've got efficiently. So it seems a good idea, if catch ourselves out holding our breath, to just breathe again.

There is no need to 'try and breathe' as it will all work beautifully well if we let it. We can help ourselves most if we just ensure we're not restricting it. After all, we need breathe efficiently to help us think more clearly, calm us down, never mind the beauty side of clearer skin, shiny hair and white eyes. Breathing is beauty treatment. It's also for life. Personal note.....'Don't be a dinosaur'.
