Leaning when walking

Walking can be such a pleasure, but it can also be a pain, particulary if we have problems with our back and legs. One of the main reasons we may have difficulty in walking is our tendency to get off balance. We need to be balanced in relation to the gravitational pull as to be out of balance will automatically cause us to strain. We might say that if it wasn't for gravity we wouldn't have any problems, but the idea of a world without it is not only pie in the sky, but we just wouldn't function.

Children can show us wonderful poise that's well balanced and that is the quality we still need. In order to be in balance, we must be careful not to lean forwards as this puts extra pressure on our knees, calves, ankles, not to mention the strain in the lower back, sacrum and neck. When walking we should think loose and tall and ensure we are not leaning, otherwise we are eventually going to need a walking stick or a zimmer frame.
