Sitting in one place

Sitting in one place for too long can be very uncomfortable, indeed a real pain in the bum....and the back and neck. As humans, we have evolved for movement, but our physique is not so well designed for sitting still at a desk for up to ten hours a day. If we're feeling stiff or starting to ache, then we've been at it too long. It's a good idea to get up and move around every half hour or so. Get a glass of water, fetch or deliver something,...anything to get moving. Don't fidget, as that excites our nervous system and can become a habit. We need to be loose and free, not tense. The freer we are the calmer we'll be. When we move, we should do so with intention. Move your shoulders, and allow them to relax and avoid hunching when sitting. Release your neck. Lean forward and backwards from your hips to vary the pressure and twist and turn to reach things. Move as freely as possible. If we can attend to 'how' we're sitting, then we can ensure the problems of the day remain on the desk and don't go to our back.
