Thinking to help our physical condition

Someone said to me the other day that she didn't believe that just 'thinking' can do much when it comes to the condition of her body or health. I thought, that's fine, and I'm not going to persuade her otherwise if that's her choice.

But I did ask her how she would feel if she discovered that she'd won the jackpot on the lottery, (assuming she'd bought a ticket) and she said she'd be ecstatic. If she hadn't bought a ticket, then that would be a miracle. But would she jump for joy? Most certainly. However, what would happen if she subsequently discovered that she had read the results wrongly and found she had not won? She would be mighty fed up, angry with herself and disappointed. Would she jump for joy? No, she would probably collapse into a slouch and hang her head. Ah well....

In a similar way, if we think of food for a while and look at magazine pictures of delicious dishes or a mouth-watering menu we will begin to salivate and our tummy may start to rumble. If we think worrying thoughts, we'll probably stiffen our muscles and even hold our breath. If we think of sexual thoughts for while, we may get different physical responses!
