I was brushing my teeth this morning and I became very aware of the need to bend my knees adequately to avoid back strain. By letting our knees bend when we want to bend over, helps our body maintain good balance. As we know, anything that's not in balance tends to fall over, or in our case, cause a lot of strain.
So I let my knees bend a little more and directed them over my toes so they went away from me a bit. I also ensured my overall body-weight staid back over my ankles to avoid knees strain. It was rather like sitting on a cushion of air. So I wasn't 'stuck' in a position, but rather floaty with bent knees. This helped my back muscles maintain better support. Indeed, very young children bend like this naturally...and so should we.
By bringing a little attention to ourselves and how we are doing things, we can help ourselves cope well and avoid unnecessary strain or even injury. A slipped disc from brushing teeth isn't the best way to start the day.
This is me aged three bending freely. I can see I liked flowers at that age...
