Will Fernando Alonso hold onto his title? Will we see Michael Schumacher reclaim his crown or UK's Jenson Button make his first championship? The season starts in Bahrain this weekend and it's all up for grabs as F1 changes its rules to bring back the excitement it's lost in recent years.
Engines have been reduced in power from the previous 3-litre V10 down to 2.4 Litre V8. Although we may not see much difference on the outside, this equates to a reduction of around 200bph, meaning that the teams cannot rely on speed alone.
This year it's down to the drivers. More than ever, they will need their wits and coordination skills to be finely tuned if they're to gain a place on the podium. This is becoming a driver's race, rather than relying on the car's brute power. Instant reflexes, clear thinking and more balanced driving styles are required to carry higher momentum out of corners. The driver will need to drive his car and any small mistakes will cost him valuable seconds.
A reversal of last years decision to allow only one set of tyres means changes are back. Pit stops will be more entertaining and with fresh rubber, the driving will be more ferocious. New qualifying rules will hopefully sift out the pole position drivers better than before. So here's looking forward to some weekend fun...
