With Easter approaching, there is good news for all closet chocoholics. Professsor Roger Corder reports that good quality dark chocolate is high in flavanols and can help prevent blood clotting, reduce blood pressure, and stave off heart disease and strokes. Flavanols are also to be found in red wine, tea, vegetables and fruit, but a good dose of chocolate may be more fun if your choco-tendencies verge on psychotic.
Neuroactive alkaloids may contribute to our euphoric feelings too, but be warned of dangers of over indulgence, says Tomas Herraiz, of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research in Madrid. So moderation is the key... Yum.
