Father and son bonding

Dad on his 80th birthday,231.jpgIt's been such a long time since I saw my Dad, about 9 months, but my feeling-good-with-anticipation morning is because he arrives this afternoon on the train from Glasgow. We keep in touch by phone every few days, but there's nothing like personal contact to keep the close connection and bond alive and well.

And he certainly is very alive, and very well. Now 80 years old and just having downloaded Google Earth so he can soar above cities of his memories, he is also an enthusiastic user of the Alexander Technique of 34 years to keep himself active and well, a positive thinking 'life-is-what-you-get' believer, flutist, model maker of miniature opera houses and keen appreciator of art and fine things in life and in short, an inspiration to me. This guy knows his limitations, but also knows that the Universe holds no limits to what he can still achieve. He manifests his own reality, as he thinks of what he wants and so gets what he wants. He uses visualisation techniques, psychically tunes in, laughs like there's no tomorrow and says he feels great.

He uses his subconscious in ways that would make his contemporaries think he's got a connection with some Divine guidance system. If he doesn't know what to do about something, or needs a solution to a creative problem with his theatre building or puppets, or how to change the sound of his flute playing, he asks his subconscious. He poses the question, then lets it work away, leaving himself open to 'hear' the message when it comes through. He's always getting 'messages'. He gets more 'messages' from his subconscious than I get emails. So I get another email from Dad saying what's come to mind and how a solution presented itself for this, that or the other. Not that he has any problems.....only opportunities, as he would say. Not bad for 80. I'm pretty chuffed to have such an open thinker and active Dad.

So he hits London this afternoon and first stop for him is my Cavendish Square Alexander Technique practice so we can have a cup of tea, and maybe I'll give him a session. We'll see. But although we have a few things lined up to do over this weekend, such as visiting the new and raved-about Velazquez exhibition at the National Gallery that's reported to be the 'exhibition of the decade', and also a drive in the country on Sunday, we're just looking forward to sharing some time. It doesn't matter what we do because it's not the doing that's important as the 'doing' is just a vehicle for getting connected, for sharing time.

So this is going to be a good weekend and I hope you ejoy yours too. I'll catch up with you again on Monday.
