I had a really enjoyable evening out last night at the Wigmore Hall. The 21 year old violinst Sergey Khachatryan was accompanied by his pianist sister Lusine and they played Mozart, Schumann and Shostakovich. Here is a duo of whom we are going to see more. They played beautifully with sensitivity and strength and gave a lovely unnaffected performance. They were there for the music and not to portray an image of any sort or flatter their ego. Some performers these days leap around with their instruments to such a degree that it's disturbing to watch and distracting from the music. They delighted the audience with three encores, finishing with lightness of an extract from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Refreshing. They are worth watching out for.
