Enjoying life

Bond.jpg It was my privilege and honour to be invited last night to the 10 YEARS Party by Empire Design, a leading campaign design company producing posters and trailers for Hollywood and independent films.

So in London where the temperature hovers around 12 degrees in the mildest autumn and December weather any of us can remember, the snow fell last night, not outside, but inside, down through the palatial stairwell of their magnificent 200 year old building. And underneath the falling snow I stood beside two large Christmas trees, taking in the awesome vista of lights and snow fit for any Hollywood production, when I heard a voice ask "How's it going?" The trees were talking....and moving, as living as you and me .....so we had a chat. The Champagne flowed and freshly cooked Dim Sum prepared by the white-hatted Chinese chef, steamed its way on high trays around the rooms. Their giant poster of Daniel Craig as James Bond in Casino Royale towered above us, along side other iconic images from films of the last ten years including, Trainspotting, Toy Story and Kill Bill. It was such a cool party.....thanks Stephen.

So now as I sit, with the memory of a great evening and their commemorative 240 page glossy book in front of me, I peruse the spreads depicting major feature films; ten years of film making flick through my fingers and I think to myself what an art form this is. Each and every poster, individual and captivating in their own way, depicts the style and atmosphere of each movie so well. In an instant we have an impression of the content, style and whether we might like to go and see it.. These designers have challenged and changed perceptions of film poster design and they created a company where people work for enjoyment and not just for the weekend. These were part of their initial objectives when they formed the company and going by the smiles and enthusiastic team last night, they are living and experiencing exaclty that.

How great to be doing what you love. Looking through these designs it becomes apparent that each and every one of them has been firstly led by the nature of the film itself, but also designed by a creative mind who absolutely understands the depth of it, and has passion to communicate with power. These designers clearly love what they do....and they do what they love. How rewarding can that be? How many of us can say that we're doing what we love?

But what else is there in life? What else is there to do? We should all be led by Joy. It's the whole point of being here. If we do what we love, then we're going to do a far better job than otherwise. And if we don't enjoy it, what's the point? When we are older and we look back on life, as we flick through our memories as I flick through some of Empire Design's campaigns, surely we would like to see that we've had one enjoyable moment after another.

And you know, there is only way we can ensure that..... to do it right now.

Have a great weekend.
