If you don't have enough to do on the run-up to Christmas here's a ploy that will keep you out of trouble for hours and reward you with tangible result for your efforts. Make a Pomander.....or two.
Just the thing for keeping your fingers busy on cold winter evenings and avoid frostbite from setting in, the making of a pomander is a ploy that could bring tears of joy (if you're a bit eccentric), tears of pain (if you don't use a spike or cocktail stick to pierce your fruit first before pressing hundreds of little cloves in with tender fingers) or tears of pleasure (or wickedness) when you present your perfectly constructed Pomander as a gift to a dear friend.
With its origins in Medieval times when people made them to carry around as an aid to ward off foul or noxious smells, they are the perfect thing to hang in a wardrobe as a moth deterrent, or carry on an over crowded bus or underground train. They are just the perfect modern gift! And you can find out exactly how to make them by clicking Here.
Pomanders are basically just a piece of fruit such as a medium sized orange or apple with cloves stuck in all around and then coated in cinnamon and orris root, all tied in a colourful ribbon then hung out to dry in a warm place. They smell so sweet and spicy they are deliciously yummy, although I wouldn't eat it really. Just like Molton Brown Shower Gel which my nose tells me I could drink all night (particularly their blue Blissful Templetree!) but some deeper instinct tells me not to..... Pomanders do as much for your olfactory senses as the yummiest of delights.
Give it at go if you have a few spare hours, and get a real sense of satisfaction in applying yourself to such a useful occupation.
The wearing Medieval costume for the occasion is optional.
