With a new year comes the chance to activate a few ideas, gain some new objectives, lose a few pounds and generally refocus on what we're doing with our life. Well I do so anyway. Actually I don't need a new year to review what I'm doing as it's an ongoing process. But January provides a focus. So, have you written out a few ideas for resolutions?
In reality, we don't need NY resolutions. We can resolve to do anything ...anytime. But usually in response to a heavily laden stomach and over indulgence that would cripple the best of us if continued long term, the couch potato syndrome and excess of Christmas and New Year can help to focus our mind. I certainly have decided to change a few habits. For starters, I gave the half consumed box of chocolates in my consulting room to my receptionist this morning with the request for her to dispose of them in any way she sees fit. I think they're disappearing one by one... Apparently she isn't starting 'Weight Watchers' until a week on Friday, so good for her.
So rather than prattling on about it, what are we going to do?
First make a list of things you think you should do. ....not too long. just a few. OK, these originate in our conscience, they're 'incompletions' (things left unattended) and by clearing them away we'll feel free and unencumbered. What a relief. Lose some weight, tidy the loft or attic, clean the car more often, sweep the leaves and eat more sensibly and get more exercise.
But what about changing a few other things....that we want to do. How about starting a new project, or giving yourself more time to do something special? This is one of my areas of focus. Being a photographer in my spare time, 2006 saw precious little come out of my darkroom and I used the cameras only a few times. So this year I resolve to give myself one Friday a month to go away for the whole day with my cameras and have a great time. If it's raining, I'll go into my darkroom. But one way or another, it will be a photography day. So I hope to be a bit more productive in 2007.
It is also my intention to stay positive, to think of what I really do want rather than about problems. What we think about is what we attract towards us, so it makes sense not to dwell on the negatives, but focus on solutions, think or dream of what we really do want.
So if the first list is a Should' list, my other is my Dream list. What is it that I truly want? When writing this list it's important not to limit it or restrain our ideas by worrying about 'How' it can be achieved. Such censoring of ideas just limits our potential. Let the Universe work it out. But writing it all down brings it to the forefront of our mind, it makes it tangible and real. The more real we make it in our mind the more we will attract what we want towards us. What about that country cottage, the fast car, the tropical holiday, the course of tennis lessons, writing that novel that's inside waiting to get out......? This is the really exciting list, so while I think about mine, I'll let you write out your own list. And remember to look at it often....
