Thinking makes it so...

thinking%20so.jpgInteresting isn't it? When we think something is easy, we usually find that it is so. But when we think something will be difficult or hard to achieve we often find that this is the case. Now are we right, or are we right? Yes, pretty much we are always right. How we think and perceive things results in the experience to match our expectations. As my hypnotherapist friend Ronald Harris has often said, "The expected sensation tends to be realised." In other words, if you believe something will happen, you will bring about the circumstances to make it happen. What you think is what you get.

So if thinking makes it easy or thinking makes it hard (or as William Shakespeare said in Hamlet, 'There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.') then it makes sense to consider how we think of things. How do you perceive the tasks and events and challenges and situations in your life? Difficult or easy? How do you rate your dreams? Do you consider them as unlikely to be achieved or easy? Bear in mind that as humans we always like to be right, so no matter what we're doing, even if we would ideally like a positive outcome, our expectation may well be that it will not work out. So guess what we experience given that we always like to be right? Yes, you guessed correctly.

So on consideration, it may seem like a good idea to think positively about our situations, positively about our dreams and rather than 'expecting' difficulties, problems and failure, shouldn't we more likely benefit by thinking positively? If we are thinking of problems, then this is what we are likely to experience as what we think is what we get. If we believe that there will be difficulties (and bear in mind that we do like to be right!) then that is what we are most likely to experience. Our inner voice loves to say "Told you so!" Indeed we can sometimes almost contrive circumstances to undermine our own efforts....just to prove that it wouldn't work! But it can be our pattern or habit to think negatively, to look for the problems. Let's switch thinking, change horses and think instead of solutions, of positive outcomes of happy times of joy, success, reward and love.

Thinking is so habitual, pathways and connections in the brain become established and just like a well trodden path through woods is the easiest route to follow, if we go off track a few times, we will eventually create a new path and the more often we take it the easier it becomes. The old path grows over and we now have a route through the woods of life that may well have better views, more interesting vistas and be quicker, easier, simpler, more direct and altogether happier than the old one. But it takes determination at the beginning to change. Don't we just love our old worn out slippers? They are so comfortable! It's time for a new pair.

If we change our thinking we can change our experience in life. As Ronald says, "The expected sensation tends to be realised". If we expect something to be 'so', then that is what we will experience. We do just so like to be right!

Now we can use our determination 'to be right' to our advantage. If we change our thinking so we 'expect' a positive outcome, expect the fulfilment of a dream, expect love, wealth, comfort, joy, sharing, thrill, happiness, and expect all this with such clarity that it feels like we already have it, then guess what. We are more than likely to get it. It's the Law of Attraction.

How much time to you devote to earning your salary? 40 hours a week? 60 hours a week or more? Maybe it's 20 hours. Now how many hours to you devote to thinking of how you would like your life to be like? How long do you consider a positive outcome to your challenges?Could that be one minute a week or less? Hm. It seems that if we would like our life to be 'just so', then maybe our ideas, dreams and wishes deserve just a few more minutes each day to help nourish them and bring them to fulfilment. Maybe we can benefit from just giving a moment's thought to how are we investing our thinking.

What you think is what you get. And as we like to be right.....all of the time, it makes sense to choose our thoughts wisely. I'll leave you to ponder on that. I think your dreams and ideal lifestyle probably deserves just a little more of your time. No, I got that wrong. I think you deserve just a few more of your dreams to come true. Give them a thought more often. Make it a daily thing. Quit thinking problems and think solutions. Visualise your dreams with as much conviction and vividness that you can almost touch them, sense them, smell them, feel them and experience the joy you will have in their fulfilment....right now! Get happy with the achievement right now. Create that excitement and joy inside right now. Events will transpire to match your feelings. "The expected sensation tends to be realised." Please don't tell me that you don't have time to think of what makes you happy, your dream, what you would truly love in your life! If you do feel that, then it may be time to reprioritise.

Have a great wish, and have a great day! :-)
