It's been one of those days again, when everything goes really well and even the rain water does a great job by coming through my ceiling into buckets with such torrent and rapidity, it makes what would be a normal and uneventful afternoon, exhilarating, dramatic and positively entertaining. Even the building managers came round instantly to view the downpour inside my clinic and all agreed that it was very bad indeed. We all nodded in unison.
Having had several weeks of dry weather, we have conveniently been able to forget that the repair to the roof, that ironically cannot be completed until the scaffolding is removed as it is resting on the damaged area, has not been completed. But with the suddenness of the torrent, we are instantly reminded and my walls are soaked once again and the plastic tarpaulin sheeting that once covered the vulnerable floor are now whisked out of storage and put in place again to catch the growing puddles and splashes.
It will be eventually fixed when the scaffolding is removed in about 6 weeks, but not until then. So I have the opposing feelings of wishing for no rain so my room can dry out and stay dry until repairs are complete, but also wishing for rain to soak our already parched ground, to help the trees and plants survive what may be a dry summer. It has barely rained for more than a shower since March and we need a lot to avoid the reintroduction of drought orders in the UK this summer.
My last appointment for the day has cancelled so it looks like I shall be able to return home earlier than usual and while I'm sorry he can't make it, the longer evening will allow me to do a little more violin practice. And how I need to do that! It's been a busy time recently, along with some travel away out of London, I haven't had much chance to play those strings that so elusively manage not to make the beautiful sound I wish they would. So on this note, I shall get on my way to make the most of the evening, while leaving adequate buckets and tarpaulins in place should the heavens decide that we need some more rain tonight.
All the best and have a good evening.
