With such rainy weather over the weekend, I watched some TV and in particular an Agatha Christie murder mystery. It seemed like a good idea, easy to watch, cosy fireside type of production and it suited the evening fine. I watched Poirot waddling about a country manor, twirling his moustache, placing a clean handkerchief on a garden bench to ensure his pristine cream coat doesn't get soiled and taking lengthy detours to avoid a little mud getting on his sparkling shoes or spats. I thought about all the people I know and concluded that everyone would probably be easier to live with than Poirot.
Could you imagine living with Poirot? Not that he is of my own particular persuasion if you know what I mean, but can you imagine living with such a person, or with Miss Marple the other Agatha Christie sleuth for that matter? There, I'm not being sexist in any way. If it is the case that we attract everything into our lives by our emotions and our thinking, then here is a good example of the Law of Attraction in action!
What are Poirot and Miss Marple thinking about most of the time? ....Murder. He goes to Venice and what happens on the train before he even gets there? - Murder. He needs a rest afterwards so heads for Brussels to relax at home and what happens?? - not murder, but double-,murder. Having had enough of Europe, he opts for the quietness of the south-west coast of England, and a peaceful, remote hotel overlooking a bay and what happens within two days of arriving??? - triple or quadruple-murder! I ask you, if he and Miss Marple are constantly attracting such mayhem everywhere they go, aren't they truly a serious threat to society and shouldn't they be the ones to be locked up? If you ever see Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot coming towards you, run the other way, duck into a cafe and sit with your back to the wall.
We may have our gripes about our husband, wife or who we live with; they are untidy, annoying, relentless in their ways and frustrating in their idiosyncrasies but for all that we love them....or we put up with them. But at least they don't go around the country causing death and mayhem! Ah, I'm glad to be with the one I know! I think we can all count ourselves lucky in some ways. Grateful for what we've got; it could always be worse. And gratitude is a wonderful thing.
