Stepping back to see the view

All year round we work hard, focus on what's needing done and endeavour to do our best wherever we can and maybe sometimes regret not having done something different. We can get so wrapped up in our activities, it's sometimes hard to see things with a clear perspective in relation to the whole picture. How does what we're doing fit in with our overall mission in life? Do we have a mission or Purpose? Sometimes we can get so close to our activities we can't 'see the wood for the trees'. "Am I 'exchanging a day of my life' wisely?"

The answer is to step back a bit. Look at what we're doing from a distance. That may be metaphorical as we pause and reflect on our situation, work, challenges, successes, achievements or maybe some lack of fulfilment. If we're so stressed and busy it's hard to give ourselves any breathing space to reflect on what's going on; we're constantly rushing from one thing to the next. It's time to stop.

30 minutes quiet time can do wonders. Put it in your diary if necessary and give yourself the rarest of treats and that is 30 minutes of doing absolutely nothing except sitting and letting your mind wander. Keep a pen and paper beside you so if you think of important things you really must attend to right away, jot them down on the paper and do not do them now, but the note will remind you for later. Now empty your mind again and let it wander. It's amazing what can come to mind if we allow the space to receive it. This process can be life affirming and in some cases, life changing.

Go on vacation! It's summer time and most of us will have a holiday planned, to escape from work, stress and normal life, to throw ourselves into a different situation that will be soooo refreshing that will revive our energies for the autumn. A change is as good as a rest. But it's also good on holiday to give yourself time to reflect a little about your life back home. If you're lucky you'll see all the wonderful things about your life that you currently enjoy and think how great is that? If you're lucky you may get a slightly different perspective on your life, milieu and circumstances and decide to make a change. It's good to reflect. If you're lucky, you'll follow your dream.

It's good to stop.

It's good to think of what's great about your life right now. Be grateful. :-)

It's good to think or dream of what you'd like to do. :-)

It's good to go and do it. :-)

"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen."-Leonardo Da Vinci
