Derrick on Obama

Never judge a book by its cover. Haven't we heard that phrase so often? Whatever the appearance on the outside, it does not necessarily represent what's going on in the inside. This applies to anything in life and no least about the young man interviewed by a news-reporter at a Barack Obama rally about his policies. The interviewer gets more than he bargained for.

You will know if you've visited my site for a while (for which I am most grateful!) that I never discuss politics. This is not because I am uninterested, but www.thinkinghappy.com is about helping ourselves be successful, happy and healthy. Not that politics may not help in certain ways (?), but my main interests lie elsewhere. That is, until I saw the Youtube clip of this young man captured on camera and who has since had such phenomenal feed back that he specially recorded a second interview to explain his own thinking and emotions behind his responses to the news-reporter's questions.

He says incidentally that politically he is independent and he may well vote McCann although he speaks pro Obama. There are so many lessons in these two clips for me. Not only is this young man bright, articulate and hugely well informed, he is also passionate, expressive and presents his views in such a relaxed manner. He knows what is in his heart and he can speak about that with as much vigour and passion as a political view point, as can be seen in the second clip.

The interviewer in the first clip has plucked from the crowd someone he thinks probably does not know much or care about what's going on with politics and the candidate's policies. How wrong can one be? We also see someone who is not phased by the pressure of quick fire questions as they are thrown at him. He is confidence supreme. And it's not just 'cool talk'.

The lessons in this are many for me and I'm grateful to Chris who sent me the links, and to Derrick the baseball capped, seashell necklaced African who gives back more than he's given.
For an off the cuff, unstaged quick thinking, honest, thought-through, well presented, confident, relaxed, warm and heart-felt honest response, this takes some beating. He should stand, himself.

I also learnt something about American politics! Thank you.

If you are interested, watch Clip #1 first, before the second. The 2nd clip which is even more interesting to me, also appears to be in one take.
