Usain Bolt sets world record in Olympic 200 meters
Visualisation techniques can be used in so many different ways and it's even been developed as a specific tool for sports people to achieve higher performances and break world records. I am using this technique to further my abilities with violin playing, by 'hearing' the sound in my head and visualising myself actually performing the piece to a high standard.....and it's working. My father who was a professional flautist in an orchestra and now retired still plays. He phoned me up not so long ago and said he's making a better sound on his flute now than he's ever managed during his professional career. He said he'd been visualising the sound; he'd been 'hearing' the sound in his head, of the most beautiful, ethereal, clear and singing sound, that lifts the heart and touches your soul. He 'heard' it in his head first; he visualised himself playing it too. He called me that day to say that it just 'happened'. Somehow his subconscious worked it out and his fingers, breathing, embrachure and all his being brought that imaginary sound into reality. Cool Dad, eh? So I copied his example and it's paying dividends.
You can use visualisation techniques to help manifest anything you choose and particularly to energise your goals by seeing them completed successfully, on time, and exactly how you would like them.
You can visualise yourself in any situation you like, behaving exactly as you would wish and receiving exactly the response from others that you would desire. Visualise yourself being successful, commanding and authoritative in business, being happy, being content, and at peace, or being entertaining and the centre of attention. You may envisage exactly the outcome of a particular meeting, the contract being signed or the relationship you desire. You can see yourself being one hundred percent confident in difficult situations such as confronting a problem, or speaking in public. You can improve your chances of success in sport by visualising winning, scoring goals and beating records.
We can choose to emulate a particular person living or dead by invoking their characteristics and talents to help us perform and behave as we know they would have done. So if we wish for more confidence and strength in difficult situations, irrespective of political beliefs we could emulate some traits of a particular political leader, or business person. Or if we would like to be more engaging and warm, we could choose another person we admire for those qualities. We can emulate any sports person, business leader, spiritual leader or anyone else who we greatly admire. This is a well known technique used by many actors wishing to evoke a particular character trait in performance. I emulate my memory of the violinist Yehudi Menuhin and what I've seen on film of his superb natural playing technique.
We can manifest different behaviours or attributes for ourselves, from being caring, friendly, gregarious, sexy, patient, encouraging, happy, intuitive, loving and generous to being trustworthy, patient, having a good memory, and speaking a language fluently. We can visualise ourselves being successful in any circumstance we choose.
There is another very important aspect about using visualisation techniques to manifest our dreams. When we have truly visualised it and seen it, smelt it and held it in our imagination, we must let it go. This is crucial. We must release the idea and not care about it so that the energy to get to work in the Universe and manifest what we visualise. If we are constantly hanging onto our idea and wish the energy cannot get to work. When you have finished visualising, bring your attention back to the present moment and be present.
Letting go can be difficult if the focus of our thoughts is very important to us. If we have a vested interest in it and are so desperately wanting this thing to come about that we are worried about it and constantly wishing for it to happen, then it won’t happen. We need to have an attitude of not caring. Yes, visualise it with as much clarity as you can and see others enjoying the benefits too, and once you’ve done that, you must trust in the Universe to provide. If it’s for you, it won’t go past you, as we say. If it doesn’t come about, it’s not the end of the world. You’ll still live, you’ll still be OK. The smallest amount of concern about whether it will come your way or not is enough to undermine your wishes and prevent them from manifesting themselves. So, visualise, then let the vision go; release it and forget about it. Get on with your life and let it come to you in its own time. You may refresh your visualisation periodically, but don’t constantly hold onto it.
The final thing about visualisation is to get your butt out of the chair and get on with life. Do something towards achieving your goals. Go and practice your sport or instrument; go make that phone call or write that letter; go out and meet people. Those small steps that we make to bring about our wishes will be returned to us a thousand fold. We need to make small steps towards what we want, then let it happen. if we do some visualisation and then take some positive steps towards our goals we are more than likely to be surprised at how easily it comes our way.
I'm off now to do some violin practice. :-)
